Belmayne ETSS Secondary School - Rooflights
Contractor – OHLA O’Hare McGovern (JP); Architect – Samuel Stevenson Ltd.
Job Overview
Design and construction of an 11,747 m2 building with two- and three-story areas. Capacity for 1,000 students, including four special needs rooms, a general-purpose area, a PE hall, and staff accommodations. Construction of sports and green areas, an access road, bicycle lanes, landscaping, connection to public services, power substation, and associated works.
Key Challenges
Following initial drawings, basic smoke and natural calculations were completed by WDACC to enable us to propose a full ventilation system. The design team were happy with the aesthetics and calculations. The large rooflight in the atrium was as built on site using bespoke Lamilux PR60, premium overhead glazing, with profiled cover strips, stainless steel screw joints and continuous flashing.
Our Solution
WDACC was commissioned by OHLA to provide a smoke and natural ventilation system for this large new school. The requirement for smoke ventilation was principally through AOV’s in stairwells and maximum daylight and natural ventilation via controlled rooflights in areas such as the large gym hall and atrium.
